SFURTI, which stands for “Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries,” is an initiative launched by the Indian government’s Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The primary objective of SFURTI is to promote and strengthen the traditional industries in India and to make them more competitive, efficient, and profitable. The scheme aims to provide sustainable employment opportunities to the rural and urban population and to enhance the skillset of the traditional artisans, craftsmen, and entrepreneurs.
Under the SFURTI scheme, the MSME provides financial support and technical guidance to the implementing agencies, which could be state governments, NGOs, or any other institutions that have the capacity to implement the scheme at the grassroots level. The implementing agencies are responsible for identifying the traditional industries that need support, conducting market research, providing skill development training to the artisans and entrepreneurs, setting up common facility centers (CFCs) for the production, processing, and marketing of the products, and facilitating the marketing of the products through e-commerce platforms, trade fairs, and exhibitions. SFURTI is to promote and strengthen the traditional industries in India and to make them more competitive, efficient, and profitable. The scheme aims to provide sustainable employment opportunities to the rural and urban population and to enhance the skillset of the traditional artisans, craftsmen, and entrepreneurs.
Tumul Social Fundamental Development Society is one such implementing agency that has been sponsored by MSME under the SFURTI scheme. Tumul is a non-profit organization that works towards the development of rural communities in the eastern Indian state of Odisha. The organization focuses on promoting sustainable livelihoods, empowering women and youth, promoting education and health, and conserving natural resources.
Tumul has also provided skill development training to more than 800 artisans and entrepreneurs, which has helped them to improve their techniques, designs, and marketing skills. The organization has facilitated the marketing of the products through its website, e-commerce platforms, and trade fairs, which has helped to create a market demand for the traditional products and increase the income of the artisans.
